Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) set to increase
Sponsoring employers and prospective visa applications should be aware that the Department has announced the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) will increase from $70,000 to $73,150, effective from 1 July 2024. From 1 July 2024 onwards, any new nomination applications must meet the new TSMIT or the annual market salary rate, whichever is higher. This update will not impact existing visa holders or nominations lodged before 1 July 2024.
The Department has also confirmed that further details regarding future income thresholds and the indexation methodology, including for the new Skills in Demand visa, will be made available later in 2024.
Jobs & Skills Australia Occupation List Review
Jobs & Skills Australia (JSA) has been entrusted with the task of conducting an occupation list review to decide which occupations will be included on the list for the Core Skills pathway. The three draft lists, available for consultation, categorise occupations that JSA:
- Are confident will be eligible (the ‘yes’ list)
- Are unsure will be eligible and are seeking industry and community feedback (the ‘maybe’ list).
- Are confident will not be eligible but are still seeking industry and community feedback (the ‘no’ list).
Noteworthy inclusions on the ‘maybe’ list encompass roles such as Chefs, Cooks, Accountants & Auditors, Data Analysts/Scientists, Management Consultants, Marketing Specialists, various types of engineers, Motor Mechanics, ICT Business & Systems Analysts, numerous Scientist roles, Carpenters, Painters, and other trades.
JSA has gathered submissions from employers and industry stakeholders and they will make a recommendation to the Department of Home Affairs regarding the final composition of the list. Timeframes for this submission have not yet been publicised.
